Astra Control Membrane is a Vapour Control Layer with a fixed sd value of 10.
Astra Membrane

What Is This Vapour Control Layer For?

Membrane intended for Internal roofs, walls, ceilings and floors.

The sd-value of the Astra Control Membrane is fixed at 10. Provides exceptional value for money and performance. Controlled diffusion minimises the accumulation of condensed water vapour within the structure, resulting in excellent indoor air quality and protection against mildew growth and structural damage. For dependability, the product is CE approved in accordance with DIN 13984.

Our Astra  Control Membrane can be used internally on timber frame roofs, walls, and ceilings, as well as on the timber roofs of masonry buildings. As a Vapour Control Layer, it aids in the formation of an airtight layer within the building.

Our Astra Control Membrane has a fixed sd value of 10, which makes sure there are no draughts, air leaks, or heat loss in a building. This means that over the lifetime of a building, heating bills and humidity will reduce, making the house much more comfortable.

With indications for precise overlay distance and combined with Gerband 586 tape, expert advice from PHS technicians, Gerband Sealant, and PHS Application rollers, the Astra Membrane allows installers and homeowners to experience an easier, faster installation.

Benefits & Features

A vapor control layer with a fixed sd (specific diffusion resistance) of 10 is typically used in building construction to prevent moisture from penetrating walls or roofs. Here are some potential benefits and features of such a product:

Benefits:
  1. Moisture control: A vapor control layer with a fixed sd of 10 helps to prevent moisture from entering walls or roofs, which can lead to mold, rot, and other forms of water damage.
  2. Energy efficiency: By preventing moisture from entering walls or roofs, a vapor control layer can help to maintain the insulation’s effectiveness and reduce energy loss.
  3. Improved indoor air quality: By preventing moisture from entering walls or roofs, a vapor control layer can help to prevent the growth of mold and mildew, which can negatively impact indoor air quality and trigger allergies or respiratory problems.

Installation –

Below you can find fitting and application instructions, links to application videos.
Astra Vapour Control Membrane Application Guide
Application
  • The Membrane should be applied perpendicular to the direction of the application surface i.e studs, rafters and joists.
  • The membrane should be fixed with staples every 150mm or with 970 Double Sided Tape
  • It is recommended to use Gerband 586 Joining Tape for bonding the barrier overlaps, penetrations and repair spots.
  • For connections to concrete or masonry Fortax 6400 Adhesive Sealant is recommended.
  • Ensure there is a 100mm overlap of the membrane and tape with Gerband 586.

Fitting

  1. The Astra membrane is applied to the building envelope on the warm side of the insulation.
  2. The membrane should be rolled out to the correct length and cut with a sharp knife.
  3. The membrane should be applied to the timbers cross-wise to the joists/rafters, with the graphics facing the installer. 970 Double Sided tape at 400-600mm centers should be used, otherwise staple every 150-200mm.
  4. Creases should be removed and reasonable tension applied to the membrane.
  5. The membrane should overlap by approx 100mm the membrane graphics on the membrane mark the 100mm spot where the membranes should overlap.
  6. The membrane should be extended approx. 100mm down the external wall without any stress on the material.
  7. A 6-8m bead of Fortax 6400 sealant should be applied to the masonry surfaces to fix the membrane.
  8. Gently press the membrane against the Sealant and allow to dry.
  9. Ensure there is sufficient stress relief in the membrane corners and trim back accordingly.
  10. Any overlaps should be joined with Gerband 586.
  11. Surface penetrations should be sealed with 586 tape or suitable PHS grommets.
